               ABSTRACT

This article analyzes Social Return on Investment (SROI) of scientific research projects
in the project package of Thai Fruits – Functional Fruits and Fruits and Fruit Products. The data

were collected using personal interviews with structured questionnaire and in– depth

interviews with the key informants of the 12 research projects. The data were analyzed using

SROI analysis. The results reveal the value of net benefit in terms of output and outcome

equals 125,389,794 THB while the Thailand Research Fund (TRF)’s research funding amounted

to 11,883,370 THB. As a result, the SROI is 10.55. This value implies that the TRF obtained

social return on investment of 10.55 THB for each their 1.0 THB research investment which is
worthwhile investments. Recommendations to ensure the improvement of the SROI as

follows: (1) support the multiyear research projects to increase research opportunities,

implementation and translation research along the supply chain. (2) systematically develop

the research ecosystem of the research institutions. (3) motivate the research’s incentives

to patent the patent/petty patent or intellectual property; (4) support co-funding between

the funding agency and the university for operating budget and promote the research

integration across institutions. (4) promote the evaluation of unfinished research projects.

If there is some research potential. The support should be continuing in order to increase

the likelihood of outcomes and impacts. These results are beneficial for the TRF, research
grant associations and educational institutions to formulate appropriate policy for further

               research supports.
