third of the way in from the edge and slightly off the centre line was a hexagonal cut and faceted
black Onyx like gemstone. Making a focal point for the design in the wedge. The point of the wedge
rested on the central line of the brooch and a fine cloisonne; formed by an arc of some yellow metal
wire which sectioned off the lower part of the brooch, the top of the arc almost, but not quite
reaching the centre of the disc. The rest of this section was further divided by cloisonneier work and
enameled in contrasting dark blue and pastel yellow sections. From the bottom corners of the
wedge cloisonne wires ran up to the outer edge of the disc. The disc itself was about five millimetres
thick and the burnished edge chamfered to just under a millimetre. The section above the arc was
further sectioned by a design in yellow metal that looked like two bales of reeds crossed over each
other at right angles. Balanced above the vertical bale was a louvred design machined from the
bronze of the disc. Two rectangular cloisonnes filled with a white enamel formed the upper part of a
design that reminded Misha of an old Japanese pictograph for a “house” or “dwelling. The lower two
cloisonnes of this design consisted of some flat, shaped, panels of a translucent blue crystalline
substance. These shaped pieces being held in place by “lapped” silver retainers that were about a
millimetre and a half wide.Who ever had made this beauty had hidden all trace of the soldering and
other fixing methods; they were a true artisan. Misha handed the brooch to Lyris; who was surprised
to find it quite heavy. She turned it over and wear could be seen to the surface near the clasp. She
took out a pocket magnifier. Worn; but just visible and to one side of the clasp were two Kryst name
cartouches. She pointed them out to Trok who had emerged from the room and looked dazed. He
managed to do a phonetic translation from comparison with the rudimentary alphabet the
Untharans had worked out.
“One says Hurhana, the other Khilmek” he said as confidently as he could. “The preposition of the
linked cartouches could signify this being a love token of sorts” he added. Lyris ribbed him about
being a hopless romantic when the coms unit fired up with a loud burst of static making them all
jump. The pilot’s voice came over the hiss.
“You’ best pack up and head back to the ship. We’ve been recalled to Keteria there’s some kind of
conference going on and you are required to attend” he said harshly. Reluctantly they did as they
were told and packed everything for the journey back. A curious group of the furry rodent creatures
eyed them inquisitively throughout this procedure, possibly hoping the strangers would leave some
tasty titbits for them.
“I’m coming back here some day to explore this place more thoroughly. One of my colleages on the
other side, may also want to visit. He’s researching the mysterious race that put the code into the
genes of most of the races in the two galaxies.” Misha said dispondently as they left for the ship. The
rodents scurried over to examine the discarded flask that Lyris had given Misha. A squabble started
but was cut short as a shadow passed overhead and the combatants headed for cover.
On the way back Trok replayed the images he’d recorded stopping periodically to examining the
image in more detail. Misha was talking to Lyris about how the building and its structure was
remenicent of structures that used to be found on old Earth.
“I wonder if the Kryst ever visited Earth in its past, they may have even been responsible for the
Mayan building techniques” she postulated. They were just about to land in the docking bay when
Trok spoke.
“I believe I have made a significant discovery. I will need to contact someone I know on Terra Prime
to consult, but, if what I have found rings true, I may have a clue as to where we can find the Kryst”
he announced.

On board the Hellion Jock and his team were about to test a theory about another device
they had discovered in the depths of the Kryst Probe. Krysta had joined Gio, Jock and Lennie in the
safety of an observation room.
“The last time I tried anything like this was back in he Thule Academy on Fernia. I blew most of the
supply grid to the engineering labs” Jock chuckled and gave the order to slowly ramp up the supply
to the device. “We think we’ve disconnected all the lines to the Probes original supply. If your friend
