of sabotage. Some other member of the crew may well have been a sympathiser with the Kryst
colonists” he said in conclusion.

“It generally happens when a society fractions off into wildly differing
groups. Old Earth had many such incidents. The Economy Wars started
because of such a fractional episode. Thank the Maker we’re well past
those petty foibles. The Unity is the most stable congress of societies to
have come out of that turmoil” Krysta said in response “In the end; The
Economy Wars all came down to the greed of certain individuals; but its
aftermath did lead to a much simpler form of government. It also led to Humanity’s expansion out
into the Galaxy. But in the case of the Kryst; it appears to have had a severe negative result” she
added.

An Ancient and a Political agenda from long ago

Once the Sarcophagus had been connected to the Veklaar’s power systems; Doc Stenerton
and his medical team got to work examining the devices logs.
Upon closer examination the occupant had been in Cryo-Stasis
for over five thousand years! It was obvious that a fault in the
timing apparatus had locked the unit into suspend mode; it
was therefore a foregone conclusion that the prolonged
suspension of the Kryst had been totally unintentional.

“After all that time, he’s going to be mighty cranky Doc” Nurse
                                              Evelyn Chapel said.

“Indeed! We are going to have to take the resuscitation procedure very slowly to avoid tissue
damage. The basic control system is much like the Cryo units that the Hagunenon and the Untharans
use, but the implementation is very different. The pulse frequencies of the stasis field are weird. The
strength of the field is extremely high. We’ll start by changing the settings for those in small
increments. In the meantime I’ll check the fluid links for the rehydration process.” Stenerton said in
response. He and two medical technicians removed a panel and began examining pipes; fluid
chambers and other items.

In the engineering bay; one of the Kryst escape pods had been brought in to be examined.
Trok and T’luha were all over it. The first thing they discovered was that it had an emergency
beacon.

“If we can work out what sub-space frequency or channel it transmits on,
we could get a trace on the two missing units. I suppose it’s just as well that
the Kryst used sub-space beacons; signals travel a remarkable distance
through sub-space” T’luha said as she strained to free the unit from the
main pod. Trok had found another attachment that seemed to be an
afterthought or modification.

“Does this look like it should be fitted to a scout craft? I think I’ve seen
something similar on a Gantrax scout vessel. It was a data recorder with a
transponder. There are no obvious signs that it’s even been used. A strange thing to fit to an escape
pod though” he mused.

“Unless that is; as the database suggests, this was a covert mission by one of the other factions.
Then I suppose dumping the data files to that and launching it; with a delay on the transponder to
disguise its trajectory, would be a wise option” T’luha responded insightfully.
