“I told him to leave it, but he went over to the Casino about an hour before the blast. I saw
he had something tucked under his overcoat; He also had another copy of the footage. I
tried his comms when I heard about the explosion; but he didn’t answer. I think he might
have had something to do with it.” She ended the conversation and Dreck took her details.
He signalled Mark over handed them to him and told him to send an unmarked unit to bring
her to HQ. He told her what he was doing and then asked
“Cindy; does your boyfriend drive a blue Sedan with Hedebar plates?”
“No, officer Dreck, he uses a hover-scoot. His family are from Hedebar that’s how he
recognised the guy” she answered
“Ok; now I want you to prepare yourself in case Danny was still inside when the bomb went
off. I’ll get the car that’s coming for you to bring you in by a secure route to the rear of the
building. When you feel up to it I’ll take you through some mug shots. Is there anybody you
want me to call?” She gave him her Father’s name; when he heard it, he understood why
she wanted anonymity. Just then Lomax and Lucy returned he filled them in with what he’d
found in the drone footage and who was coming in. Lomax went to the Chief’s office he and
his wife were hugging each other crying like kids. Krank intercepted him and took him to
one side. Lomax relayed what they had so far and even Krank’s eyes opened wide when he
heard about Cindy. She was none other than the Mayor’s youngest daughter…
A shrewd Business move
Keeping up the appearance that it was business as usual Hagron met with Magnus
and his son Leroy. He had the paperwork with him and they were going through the fine
details when, as arranged, Shirley turned up with a message that Splitt couldn’t get him on
his comms, something about interference with the network from the bombing. That
incident had been a godsend; it had made the incessant demands from Glass and other
Syndicate members dip to almost a whisper. They knew that the Force would be increasing
their activity, probably roping in the Black Guard too. It gave them breathing space to do
what they’d got planned.
“Splitt should have changed networks long ago” He said to Magnus, who like the three of
them had stood up when Shirley arrived; observing the usual protocol for a female
presence. Leroy immediately homed in on Shirley, just as she said he would. With him
distracted he’d sign away his rights to his name and social security number. Everything could
not have been going better. Meanwhile Splitt had set about contacting all their business
clients about the move to Ferisa and the why’s and wherefores. As it happened a small crisis
of sorts had occurred with the business on Ferisa, there’d been a sudden death of a board
member. Nothing suspicious, but it meant He and Hagron had a legitimate excuse for the
trip.
When Shirley had the chance she told Leroy about the holiday trip she had planned.
He was ecstatic, so enthusiastic in fact he insisted they take his private Transport. Hagron
winked at Magnus who winked back, Magnus knew his son very well. Besides it meant
Shirley would have a few more extra credits to spend, plus whatever Leroy lavished on her.
That girl really knew how to work the system, and men. Leroy and Shirley made there
