suspicion and our moves must look like they are for legitimate reasons” he continued, and
then he went on to relay what Glass had said in the same gory detail he had been told…
Shirley; realising something bad was afoot prepared herself for the worst. Expecting
to find herself unemployed she had begun to clear her desk. Splitt popped his head round
the door. He was looking odd; Shirley expected the worst, but was about to be surprised.
“Shirley; leave that and come in here a moment. Mr Hagron and I would like a word about
the future.” He said. Shirley stopped clearing her desk and did as she was told. They asked
her to sit down then Hagron told her of his meeting. He left out the more gory details but
from her expression he could tell she had figured it out. He then laid out what there next
moves were going to be.
“Splitt and I will be taking a sabbatical to our Unity subsidiary offices on Ferisa in the
Achenazi sector. Ostensibly it will be to organise the Unity side of the business to bring it in
line with the arrangements here. It was always going to be money laundering exercise for
our Syndicate front here, but this way it will be a way of making it look a more legitimate
venture. To get the heat off you, we want you to take a holiday break. It will all look official;
a sort of rest period prior to joining us on Ferisa to help organise the staff there. If Glass and
the Kinray Group get even the slightest whiff that we are bailing to safer climes, I dare say
that our remains will probably surface in a number of Pet food cans on sale in the discount
aisle. If I’m not mistaken this “takeover” that Glass and his goons have done is going to
spark a Syndicate Turf war, the sooner we get our move organised the better. Do you have
any place in mind you can go and with whom?” he finally asked. Shirley was always good at
thinking on the spot and replied quickly
“I have a Cousin on Mira who’s wanted us to get together ever since she got married and set
up a business there. That’s the destination sorted; she has a lovely place out in the hills. Also
a secure Hive-Net service link so if you need to contact me or vice versa that’s possible. How
long are you thinking this to be for?” she asked.
“Oh; at least a month maybe two and you do have two months accrued holidays with pay
and bonuses, remember to take any expense money out of the company petty cash. There’s
plenty in there, I saw to it only this morning. Make sure that you use the legit Visa’s and
Permits along with border passes with your maiden name. It’s not uncommon these days for
widowed women to revert their names. That way if Customs do stop you you’ll have proper
documents. We’ll leave later in about two weeks’ time, spreading the word that we will be
closing these offices temporarily but contact can still be made with us through to the offices
on Ferisa. That way anyone who does contact us would have to make it for legitimate
reasons so as not to alert the Unity Patrol. I think that covers all the bases” Splitt said to
them but Shirley interrupted.
“What about the meetings you two had this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Those
clients are among our most lucrative, besides young Master Leroy likes me. He even
proposed.” She said coyly.
“Damn! I hadn’t thought of that. The meetings were with him and his Father to discuss a
legal contract over custody of the Business in the event Magnus divorced Leroy’s mother.
Can you arrange to have them meet me for lunch at Alexandros’ I’ll get them to sign the
