Forensics had unearthed some more remains in a lock-up in Mid-Town. They were
female and had been there some time. Dreck went this time. He arrived as Doc Harrigan was
carefully bagging the remains.
“You guys sure know how to keep a gal busy. This one’s nasty; been here a while, from the
height and the bone structure I’d say female in her mid-thirties to early forties. I’ll be unable
to give you an ID until we match dental records. This decay is not natural. We did find one
item that might give you a clue, an inscribed bracelet.” Doc said and handed him an
evidence bag with the bracelet inside. He could just about read the inscription.
“My dearest Fey; the Guy who gave her this didn’t know how to spell” Dreck said
“You misunderstand the word; Fey was the ancient Celtic term for a witch. The most famous
of the Fey was one Morgana le Fey” Doc corrected him. Dreck had a sudden inspiration
“I’d bet you a ten note this is Morgana Binder-Glass, we’ve been looking for
her, looks like she met a nasty end. Let us know what you find Doc. Hang on; is
that a bottle over there on the workbench?” Dreck went over and put on a
pair of gloves. He used a pencil to pick up the small vial and had it put in an
evidence bag.
“There’s some sort of liquid residue inside Doc; could be what did her in.” he handed the
bag to Doc Harrigan.
“You’re right and there’s enough to send a small sample to analyse and leave the rest as
evidence. Well spotted.” Doc beamed at him. He left to go back to HQ when he noticed
something else behind the door. He squatted down and looked closely at the lock. It had
been forced, not only on the outside but damage could be seen on the inside too.
“It looks as if she tried to get out but that stuff got her first just as she’ bust the lock. Must
be very fast acting to stop her dead so quick. I’d take some precautions Doc; we’ve got
enough dead bodies in this case already.” He stood back up and went out to his car. He
messaged in his preliminary report and headed back to HQ.
When he arrived back he informed the rest of them of who he suspected the body
was. It would be a while before Forensics confirmed his suspicions; so in the meantime
they’d try and find Marco as he was the only other link in the chain that had either not
expired or who was unable to do any of the crimes. Marchant Lucerne was questioned, but
from his physical state he too would not have been able to commit any of the crimes and
was elsewhere, and provably so, when the murders were committed. He admitted to
covering up some of the “dealings” with the Sintivar business, but he wasn’t the only
Council Official in the pay of the Syndicates, back then many things went “under the table”
for a small “consideration”. He’d named some of those involved. Krank gave those details on
to Vice. Marchant did have one thing to say on the “alternate” family line
“Josiah Lusern was taken to a Protectorate world for neuro-surgery and some gene
manipulation. I came across the papers shortly before the firebombing that destroyed the
old Hall of Records. I wish I’d hung onto them, your hunch that Josiah may still be alive could
be true Detective Lomax.” He said. Lomax allowed himself a satisfied smirk. He’d been right
to see Aurelius. Jason had made strides in identifying the toxin further
