Victory From An Insider's
A fairly young team young team with only one
senior, the Lady Cougars lacked height and
experience. Undaunted; however, by their lack
of physical prowess on the court, the women pulled
together, practiced hard, and played like a real team —
emphasizing each other’s strengths and working to
overcome one another’s weaknesses. Senior Laura
Clements really stepped in and added a lot to the game
with excellent leadership skills that encouraged everyone
to do their best and to play each game with a
determination to win. This was a rebuilding season for
the Lady Cougars. With the addition of five new
freshman and only three returning players Coach Mike
Gold had his work cut out for him to take this group of
individuals and mould them into a hardworking team.
Kim Hester said, “Coach Gold put in a lot of hard
work, patience, and endurance — especially through the
tough times. Coach is an excellent example of how Christ
should be exemplified in our lives on and off the court.
He teaches us to have and to keep Jesus first, as well as
the game of basketball.” Although their win loss record
for the season may not have been spectacular, the team
considered the end result a worthy goal — the formation
of new friendships and the development of pride in their
teamwork.
Susan Williams (40) and
Laura Clements do a great
job of blocking their
opponent. The Toccoa
Falls Eagles eventually did
win the game but not
without a good fight from
the Lady Cougars.
