illingness to travel could be a requirement to
be on the baseball team. Dodge Rock field is
passable for softball practices and some games,
and it is s
Wufficient for the intramural games, but the men
need a field which meets official baseball specifications.
Fortunately, the College is able to lease Joe DiMaggio
field from St. Petersburg Junior College. The Cougars
also are able to practice there every day.
The fans pile into cars and drive the short distance to
watch their team under the lights for the late afternoon
and evening games. Most of the team’s games are
doubleheaders and stretch into the early evening hours
when it begins to cool off. It is not uncommon to see
sweatshirts and sweaters dot the stands along with a few
jackets. There is nothing like watching a baseball game
from behind home plate. The Cougars are a scrappy
bunch and play hard to win. The fans appreciate their
effort and are very vocal in their cheers and praise.
Friends yell out to the players and constantly scream
encouragement to them throughout the game. With the
best season record in the history of the college, the team
has earned the respect of a loyal following.
