he members of the English Club have enjoyed an





                                                                                                                                       exciting year. Working against seemingly




                                                                                                                                       insurmountable obstacles to see the birth of the




                                                                                                                                       first student newspaper stretched their abilities





                                                                                                                                       and caused some to wonder if they had assumed a




                                                                                                                                       task too great for them to complete.




                                                                                                                                               The debut edition of PAW PRINTS was well




                                                                                                                                       received by students and faculty in February. It





                                                                                                                                       did not yet have a name. The editorial staff




                                                                                                                                       decided to run a contest to elicit suggestions from




                                                                                                                                       the student body. Travis Moore and Suzy Drury





                                                                                                                                       came up with the identical name. Because the




                                                                                                                                       cougar is our mascot, Pawprints is a very




                                                                                                                                       appropriate and quite clever title.




                                                                                                                                               The student-run newspaper is the first in the




                                                                                                                                       history of the College. Although Dr. Jean





                                                                                                                                       MacFarlane is the sponsor, the members of the




                                                                                                                                       English club are responsible for contributing





                                                                                                                                       articles, gaining approval of content, setting the




                                                                                                                                       text, paste-up, and printing the paper. Using




                                                                                                                                       computers has helped them tremendouly in the




                                                                                                                                       production of the paper. It is their desire





                                                                                                                                       eventually to issue the paper on a quarterly basis.







                                                                                                                                       Tammy Williamson  and  Maria Jeffries read with interest one of the


                                                                                                                                       humorous stories in the premier issue  of the  newspaper.  It was


                                                                                                                                       packed with  informative articles as well  as original  poetry and  prose.
