or many students the school calendar is important
to them only to find out when the next vacation is
coming; however, the Introduction to Business class
has another use for it. The studensts take the
calendar with them as they sell advertising space to
local merchants.
Each year this class is responsible for making
contacts with local businessmen to see if they
would be interested in putting an advertisement
for their business in the calendar. This provides
the them with a new source of patrons because of
the interest generated among the College family.
Many times they offer special rates and discounts
for students and families from the College. The
discounts are an advantage for many of the
families associated with the college. Jen Farrell
says, “The Gulf-to-Bay Motel is close to the school
and the ten percent discount made it an even
more desirable place for my parents to stay.”
Students benefited from working on this type of
project by increasing their business
communication skills and by gaining valuable
experience in the working world. The class was
divided up into eight groups of up to four
