The start of a new generation
As you walk into the empty gym on May 20 and see
the platform and the 262 chairs lined up in rows, all ready
for the Ralston High class of '84, the silence is overwhelming,
As the room starts to fill, tension and anticipation begins
to rise in the air as 260 seniors and two junior ushers get
ready for the processional.
When the "Pomp and Circumstance” begins, junior
ushers Christine Mulligan and Troy VanCaster begin the walk
as seniors Scott Kasper and Sandy Horton lead in the
graduating class of '84.
After the National Anthem and the invocation, given
by Rev. J. Dirk Reek, Salutatorian Jacqueline Kruse, with
tears in her voice, begins the welcome speech, talking of
accomplishments, as individuals and as a class. With
concluding advice for the seniors, she said, "even if you
shoot for the moon and miss, you're still among the stars.”
Pranks were not missing at commencement, for as the
choir was singing "Down the Road”, bubbles were floating
and balloons were flying.
Valedictorian Cynthia Frady spoke about "A Senior's
Thoughts at Commencement” talking of the plans for the
future, telling them the world is in their hands.
Ending the day on a challenging note, the senior class
turned their tassels and gave up their reign, they packed
the 13 years of school memories back in their minds to take
on a more important role, the future generation.
Tiny bubbles. Seniors Gary Price
and Mark Cerny are carrying
on the tradition of pranks, as
seniors Roy Garda and Shawn
McGuire enjoy the fun of the
moment.
