Fashion statements —
■Senior Kevin Cruise on fashions and fads:
"Dumb. I'm just being stupid. I was dancing to a stupid band. They
rock 'n' roll too much ... (Where do you think you got your style
of dressing?) ”1 don't know; I just put on clothes. I don't really care
what I dress like. I like wearing t-shirts and stuff. I like my polyester
green jacket with the white stitching a lot. I cut off my corduroy pants
into shorts now since it's summer. I was mad, at first, but I like them
now. Sometimes I go to Goodwill to find some stuff; I mean why pay
so much? But I do pay a lot on clothes when I go to the Skateboard
Shop. These shorts cost me $40, they're Zippy's. The shoes cost me $62
(skateboard shoes). Some clothes I do spend a lot on, but then some
not at all ... I think my clothing fits my personality. I'll pay a lot for
some clothes, but some people pay outrageous amounts on clothes.
Gebaud jeans cost what, $60; I think that's crazy. (Do you buy your
own Clothes?) Well, my parents buy the expensive stuff. I did buy
an expensive pair of skateboard jeans once, which cost me $50. They
were rad." (What kind of fads did you see during the year?) "Wefl,
the only thing I saw is when people all of a sudden one day dress like
a (normal) person then, the next day, they're like Nirvana shirt
wearing, bandana on head, earrings out the nose, it's like what
happened to you . . ." (Do you think you and your friends dress
alike?) "Yeah, some of us do; some don't. Two of my friends dress
like me, but they have their own style too. I mean I wear my clothes
eight times too big for me. I'm way more comfortable like that.”
