women’s first soccer team began this year. Last spring,

about two dozen girls showed interest in playing on a soccer team and

began preseason practices. This fall, the team added several quality

players. Coach Hutchison said, “Having a dozen juniors and seniors

on the squad gave us a sense of maturity and stability from the pre­

The ladies had a unique

name given to them. Freshman Melanie Fitzgerald said, “Coach told |

us that in Europe, every team is called side instead of team, and so he

did a play on words and called us sweet side.” The ladies were true to

their name. They had some sweet action moves, but most importantly

they had a sweet spirit. They played as if they had taken to heart a

phrase which they repeated before every game: “In all things, Christ.”
