                                                                        Despite  the  declining enroll­
                                                                    ment in band, the band continued
                                                                    to offer a wide variety of programs
                                                                    to its students.
                                                                        The Ralston High School Band
                                                                    had  consistently  received  excel­
                                                                    lent ratings at marching band com­
                                                                    petitions.  Many judges and direc­
                                                                    tors contended that the band con­
                                                                    sistently put on the field one of the
                                                                    most difficult shows  in  Nebraska.
                                                                    “Our  shows  are  always  put  to­

                                                                        This  year  the  band  was  re­
                                                                    warded for their hard work.  The
                                                                    band went on  a trip to  California
                                                                    over  winter  break.   They  per­
                                                                    formed during the Freedom Bowl’s
                                                                    halftime show in Anaheim.  Part of
                                                                    the  trip  included  visits  to
                                                                    Disneyland and Medieval Times, (a
                                                                    restaurant  where  they  relive  the
                                                                    medieval time period.)
                                                                        The  band  expanded  its  hori­
                                                                    zons  as  well.  One  new  program
                                                                    was  winter  drumline.   Winter
                                                                    drumline  is  a  lot  like  marching
                                                                    band  season for the  band,  except

                                                                    that the only instruments are per­
                                                     m              cussion.  This  year  the  drumline

            I Ww         '                                          played  exhibition  shows  and  also
                                         i m
                                                                    competed.  The winter drumline
                                                                    grows  year  by  year.  One  major
                                                                    factor  in  the  growth  of  winter
                                                                    drumline  is  that  it,  “gives  kids  in
                                                                    band an opportunity to play a dif­
                        mW M  %                                     ferent  instrument,”  said  Junior

                                                                       The  jazz  band  is  a  smaller
                                                                   group of students than the regular

                                                                                                   Dedication to the  Ralston Regiment by
