           STUDIES

    of  courses,  including  elective  courses  in  sociology,  psy­
    chology,  and  social  ecology.  This  department  encour­
     ages students to deal with the great social problems fac­
     ing today’s complex society.  A secondary goal  is to pro­
     mote  independent  thinking  and  learning.  The  high-
     point  of  the  year  is  the  annual  trip  offered  for  history
     students  to  Washington,  D.C.  in  order  to  provide  a
     close-up look of how our federal government works.
