ard practices, determination, and
H continued improvement were
what it took to play basketball.
The freshmen “A” boys’ and girls’
teams finished the season with records
of 3-11 and 6-9, respectively. The
freshman girls “B” team finished with a
2-9 record.
The freshman girls’ team consisted
of only 12 players. Many times the
same five girls would have to play the
entire game for both “A” and “B”
teams.
“One player admitted to me before
one game that she loved to play,” said
coach Joyce Roeschke. “I feel that
exemplified the feeling of every girl on
the team. The girls not only learned a
great deal but also had fun. As a
matter of fact, so did 1!”
The frosh boys’ outstanding players
were Dave Iltzch and Scott Peterson;
both were leading scorers.
“These kids improved greatly by the
end of the season,” said Coach Dan
Meyer. “If they continue to work hard
they’ll have a good future.”
The sophomore team, coached by
Ron Siske, had a record of 2-11.
“Each player in his own way helped
the team,” said Siske. “As individuals
they improved over the year and,
hopefully, they will keep working and
improving so they can help the
basketball program in the future.”
Leading scorers for the team were
Jim Palensky, Tom Madsen and Bob
Rea. Rebounding leaders were Jim
Palensky, Bob Rea, Blaine Welliver and
Greg Eischeid.
The girls’ j.v. team was coached by
elementary teacher Dan Mussman. The
girls had an 8-8 record.
The leading scorers were
sophomores Julie Borders and Sheri
Maycock and junior Mary Lange.
The j.v. boys’ team was also
coached by Meyer. They finished their
season with a record of 6-10.
“A win-loss record doesn’t always
indicate how a team has done during a
season,” said Meyer. “The team had
an up and down year. We had good
individuals talent-wise, but it is
importrant that we come together as a
team next year on the varsity level.”
