A schematic diagram of common glass manufacturing process is shown in
Figure 2.3. This process starts with solid glass beads (marbles) that are melted at
softening point and metered into a drawing box. Molten glass is formed into a
continuous filament through orifices with the assist of high-speed winders (draw rolls).
Glass filaments were coated via a chemical treatment process which usually referred
as sizing or binding to reduce the filaments breakage during processing.
