COURSE SYLLABUS /FALL 2018
Course Description:
This is a practicum course dedicated to the family-centered nursing care of infants, children, and
adolescents. Practicum experiences allow for application of nursing theory and will introduce
concepts of pediatric acute and chronic illness, pharmacology, pathophysiology, family centered
care, evidence based practice, health promotion and prevention, education, and the role of the
pediatric nurse. This course is taken concurrently with NURS 270, Family-Centered Nursing
Care of Children-Theory.
Course Goal:
The purpose of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to apply nursing
knowledge, skills, and concepts to the care of acutely and chronically ill children. Through the
pediatric clinical experience, students will develop the necessary skills to provide safe,
competent nursing care to children of all ages.
Credit: 3 credits
