LEARNING OUTCOMES

               1.      Perform accurate, physical assessments on infants, children, and adolescents within the
                       acute care pediatric setting.

               2.      Demonstrate safe medication administration and dose calculation by applying concepts of
                       pharmacology to the pediatric patient.

               3.      Demonstrate the ability to clearly and accurately document within the electronic health
                       record.

               4.      Communicate in an effective and respectful manner as a member of the interdisciplinary
                       health care team.

               5.      Develop evidence-based nursing care plans for acute and chronically ill pediatric patients.

               6.      Value the patient and family-centered care model within the pediatric setting.

               7.      Provide nurse-based health education to pediatric patients and their families.

               8.      Apply pediatric health promotion and prevention concepts to improve patient outcomes.


               REQUIREMENTS
               Clinical attendance and active participation is mandatory. All assignments must be completed
               and turned in on or before the designated due date. Students must arrive to clinical on-time.
               Tardiness will not be tolerated. Missed clinical shifts will result in the need for a make-up
               experience. Please contact clinical faculty in case of illness or unexpected absence.

               CLINCIAL DRESS CODE
               Students must wear a Drexel clinical uniform and ID badge.

               INSTRUCTIONAL METHODOLOGY
               Direct pediatric patient care, lecture, post conference discussion, high-fidelity simulations, case
               studies, laboratory practice, reflective journaling, oral examinations, preceptorships, questioning,
               written assignments

               EVALUATION METHODOLOGY
               This course is graded on a Pass/Fail basis in which both clinical performance and written work
               will be evaluated. A “satisfactory” rating for clinical performance and written work is required to
               pass this course. Please see individual assignments for evaluation criteria. Clinical performance
               will be evaluated and assessed for improvement and growth on a continual basis throughout the
               semester. A formal midterm and final clinical evaluation will be completed.
