mulados.
La competitividad y el fomento
de una cultura de emprendi-
miento de calidad, son parte
de las iniciativas que impulsa
el Ministerio de Industria y Co-
mercio, con el aprovechamien-
to del marco legal vigente. Re-
salta que el impacto que tiene
la zona franca en la genera-
ción de empleos y crecimiento
la economía de servicios de
manufactura tanto industrial
como agroindustrial, tiene mu-
cho futuro en el país.
Esos subsectores forman parte
de la zona franca, que es a su
crecimiento por la realidad eco-
nómica internacional, debido
al encarecimiento de China.
Una gran cantidad de empresas
han emigrado hacia la Repú-
blica Dominicana, expresó Del
Castillo Saviñón.

HAS A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR
THE DEVELOPMENT OF EXPORT
ORIENTED PRODUCTS
The Dominican economic model is ideal for
investment in agricultural products, especially
tropical fruits of high acceptance in the United
States and the European market.
The agribusiness sector in the Dominican Republic has
the facilities of the Law 150-97, which provides zero
rate to the import of inputs, equipment and machinery
for agricultural projects. In addition, our country has
excellent land for cultivation of fruits and vegetables
during the 365 days a year,becoming an ideal destina-
tion for agribusiness production.
Currently, in the Dominican Republic,there are more
than 500 agribusiness enterprises that generate
around 58.000 direct jobs and opportunities for local
and foreign markets for more than 150.000 agricul-
tural producers. Traditionally, agriculture includes the
production of sugar cane, coffee, cocoa and tobacco;
while among the main products of non-traditional
exports are fruits ,such as banana, orange, avocado,
pineapple, mango and melon, becoming our country
one of the main suppliers of the US market and several
European countries in some of these items.

Considering that still there is a great space for innova-
tion and the financial and technical assistance in the

ties for investment to develop agricultural projects.
AGRICULTURE, INDUSTRY AND TRADE
The Minister of Industry and Trade, José de Castillo
Sauvignon, deemed favorable the Dominican econo-
mic model, although he understands that there are
aspects which should be reformulated.
Competitiveness and promotion of an entrepreneurs-
hip culture are part of the initiatives driving the Minis-
try of Industry and Trade, with the use of the existing
legal framework. He highlights the impact that free
zones have in the generation of jobs and economic
growth and considers it a sign that manufacturing
both industrial and agribusiness has a long future in
the country’s economy.
These subsectors are part of the free trade zones,
which is the number one sector with more growth by
the international economic reality, due to the rise in
China.
Castillo Sauvignon said that a lot of companies have
migrated to the Dominican Republic.
MORE FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT
During the last two decades, Trade, Industry and Agri-
business have captured just over 20% of foreign in-
vestment that has been established in the country. For
the Minister of Industry and Trade, that’s a sign of the
confidence that investors have in the stability and eco-
nomic growth, as well as the advantages of the country
for business development and supply of its products.
