                                                                     Foreigners whose sources of income come from
                                                                     a monthly income (pension or retirement) are eli-
                                                                     gible to act 171-07 on special incentives to the
                                                                     retirees and shareholders of foreign source. This
                                                                     law provides the following benefits:
                                                                     • Permanent residency in 45 days.
                                                                     • 50% of the property tax exemption.
                                                                     • Exemption from taxes levied of the payment of divi-
                                                                     dends and interest earned.
                                                                     • Exemption from taxes of home furnishings and per-
                                                                     sonal property.
                                                                     • Partial Exemption of vehicle taxes.
                                                                     • Exemption of 50% of the capital gains tax, as long as
                                                                     the annuitant is the main shareholder of the company
                                                                     and that the company is not engaged in commercial or
                                                                     industrial activities.
                                                                     All these advantages make the investment in the real
                                                                     estate sector, one of the most active mechanisms of at-
                                                                     traction of foreign currency in the Dominican Republic.
