Abstract
The study on the value chain of organic jasmine rice under The Cooperation for the
Development of Organic Farming in the Upper Central Provincial Cluster Project aimed to
analyze the value chain of organic jasmine rice in Lopburi, Chainart, Ayutthaya, Saraburi
,Singburi ,and Angthong province. Data of the value chain of organic jasmine rice were collected
by questionnaires and interviews from certified organic rice farmers and organic rice mills as a
sample.
The results of the study revealed that the organic rice farmers were carefully
emphasized on every processing step of cultivation. Farmers who gather as a group could
sell organic paddy directly to organic rice mills and consumers. But individual farmers could
not sell organic paddy to organic rice mills because they were not the farmer network or
members of organic rice mills. Organic rice mill was strict in production every processing step.
Organic rice mill had been bought paddy from only members, These could be the standard
control of the mill.
In term of the cost and income comparison found that the cost of organic jasmine
rice less than chemicals rice of 19.90%, with yield organic jasmine rice less than chemicals
rice of 22.35%, but the price of organic jasmine rice was higher than chemicals rice of 40.66%
and also, an income of organic jasmine rice was higher than chemicals rice of 133.96%
The recommendations from this study suggested that the farmers should be formed
a group and created network groups. The government agency should support the processing
of rice. The Private organic rice mill should expand its networks thoroughly which covered
more organic jasmine rice farmers.
