pressure differential characteristics of a straight run of this pipe superior to that of steel
pipe. Because it is much lighter than steel pipe the installation is much easier.
7) Its recommend to provide display boards showing cost of utility, compressed air, electricity,
chilled water, etc. This will definitely increases sense of responsibility while utilization of utility
services by operating and user department. For Further Observations and recommendations,

Energy Saving Opportunities in Chiller Plants :
1. Chiller System contribute app. 30-35% in the total energy consumption (At present ambient
conditions). It is obvious that this shall go up with increasing ambient temperature.
2. Specific Energy Consumption of the chillers is above 1.30 KW/TR. Both chillers are operating
at partial loading around 50%.
3. Delta T (Temperature difference across evaporator is 1.2°C which is very poor and shall be
raised upto 3-4 °C.
Energy Saving Potential :
In Order to reduce the fixed component of energy, following measured can be recommended.
1. Technology Change option :
a. As compared to scroll chillers, specific energy consumption is higher than 40%. If present
condition is considered as standard operating condition, average consumption per day is 4500
KWH per day i.e. average 1800 AED per day. Annual consumption of the chiller would be
1,372,500 KWH i.e. 521,500 AED.
2. If the 40% difference is considered, average running cost difference between scroll chillers
and Recip. Chillers would be 208,620 AED per annum. Over 5 Years operating span, the saving
would be app. 1 Million AED.
3. Average plant requirement at present condition is derived as 150 TR (Heat load handled by
both chillers). Hence management may think of installing a scroll chiller of capacity 175 or
suitably 200 TR (Most preferable is 100 TR x 2).
4. Condenser & Evaporator cleaning and removal of slime to increase the delta T , automation
of Secondary pump with PID Control & VFD would also yield saving within ROI of 1 to 1.50 Year.
(Detailed Engineering is required to explore the possibilities of savings mentioned in Option
No. 6 or 7).
