TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE
7.4.2 CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE
Corrective maintenance is merely repair work, which may be performed on a
scheduled basis or during inspection times. It’s usually used in correcting a defect
before the breakdown of the component occurs. This type of maintenance is usually
performed in response to a preventive maintenance inspection. The effect that
corrective maintenance has on equipment availability is shown in Figure 7.1. As the
amount of corrective maintenance performed is reduced by preventive maintenace
inspection or condition monitoring maintenance, equipment, availibility increases.
Care must be taken to avoid either extreme; otherwise it’s not cost effective.
Somewhere along the line if the more economical situation.
