Responsibilities After Thoracentesis
• Prepare the patient for x-ray examination if necessary (post therapeutic example).
• If fluid or air is required to drain out, provide the patient and equipment to insert a chest
tube with an under water drainage seal.
• If a specimen sample is taken, prepare to send it to the laboratory.
• Measure the amount of fluid released and record in the output intake chart.
