Responsibilities Before Thoracentesis

• Determine a chest x ray has been performed to determine the location and indications
that require thoracentesis to be performed.

• Provide ongoing emotional support to calm the patient either by being with the patient

during the procedure or listening to the patient's complaints and doing the job with full

confidence.
