Memorial Committee

When death comes and your loved one is no longer with you physically, how do you remember them? How do you
honor their life and the way they have impacted yours? The reality is there is no way to truly do this. Often we will
give gifts to organizations that were associated to that individual in hopes of carrying on the ongoing impact in
     others.

Memorials in the church are these very gifts that are given to the church to celebrate and remember the lives of
those close to us. This is true here at Savoy UMC. We have memorial funds celebrating the lives of those who
touched our lives and the Kingdom of God. Some of these individuals are well known and recent, while others are

part of another generation that prepared the way for us today. In the past, the Memorial Committee allocated these
funds to invest into special projects for the church where funding was often needed.

The Memorial Committee (MC) recently decided to give you access to these funds that were not allocated to a
specific ministry so these funds might be invested and utilized to help us “Journey with Jesus to be like Jesus” and to
bring the Kingdom of God. If you have an idea for a ministry – want to bring in a speaker or musical group or you
see a resource we need - more chairs or hearing assistance equipment. Then you can fill out an application for
memorial funds to help make the ministry happen. When you fill out the application, please give the details (actual

cost, time frame, how it will help us “Journey with Jesus to be like Jesus”) for this ministry you are proposing. The
Memorial team will look at the requests and determine if funding will be made available.

The hope of this is to take the funds that were given in celebration of a life and to continue their impact by touching
other lives in their name and for the glory of God. The MC does not believe those who gave the financial memorial
gifts want the church to sit on those funds nor do they want those funds spent haphazardly. The hope of the MC is
that we will creatively use these gifts to bless others, honor those who have gone before us, and ultimately honor
     God for the blessings.

Hebrews 12 says we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, so let us pause, remember and praise God for those he

sent before us. Please contact the Memorial Committee if you have any questions.
