KNX TUTOR SEMINAR
2 Current Status
Currently KNX Association counts over 245 member companies, including companies that
1
were previously not a member in any of the legacy associations .
Companies interested in using the KNX or the legacy technologies no longer have the
possibility to become a member in any of the legacy associations: KNX membership is the
only option.
In May 2002 the first version of the KNX specifications were published amongst the KNX
members and the KNX Certification Scheme for Products started.
On the basis of these specifications, the IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) Clearance was
started, which ended successfully in June 2003. As a result of this process, all KNX
members may use the KNX-technology free of any patent claims of fellow members in
KNX certified products. This is unique in the world of bus technologies.
KNX Association is responsible for:
all activities around the KNX system:
specification work in the expert groups
technical hotline support to members
international standardisation
protection of the logo
KNX certification
training documentation
promotion and communication (e.g. publication of the journal twice a year,
brochures, bi-annual award for best installation and best student project, presence
at fairs, web pages, .)
national groups : local representatives of a number of member companies in a
given country responsible for the local promotion of the KNX system
scientific partnership : scheme allowing technical institutes easy access to the
KNX specifications and tools for use e.g. in students’ projects – annual
organisation of the KNX Scientific Conference
partnership for trained and certified contractors and planners
certification of training centres
any remaining promotion of the legacy systems and needed clarifications of the frozen
legacy specifications and respective technical support
Certification of EIB products, as an optional trademark on KNX certified products
Any further work in expert and working groups of the former legacy associations has been
suspended.
