                  2  Current Status


                  Currently KNX Association counts over 245 member companies, including companies that
                                                                                1
                  were previously not a member in any of the legacy associations .
                  Companies interested in using the KNX or the legacy technologies no longer have the
                  possibility to become a member in any of the legacy associations: KNX membership is the
                  only option.

                  In May 2002 the first version of the KNX specifications were published amongst the KNX
                  members and the KNX Certification Scheme for Products started.

                  On the basis of these specifications, the IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) Clearance was
                  started, which ended successfully in June 2003. As a result of this process, all KNX
                  members may use the KNX-technology free of any patent claims of fellow members in
                  KNX certified products. This is unique in the world of bus technologies.
                  KNX Association is responsible for:

                      all activities around the KNX system:

                        specification work in the expert groups
                        technical hotline support to members
                        international standardisation
                        protection of the logo
                        KNX certification
                        training documentation
                        promotion and communication (e.g. publication of the journal twice a year,
                         brochures, bi-annual award for best installation and best student project, presence
                         at fairs, web pages, .)
                        national groups : local representatives of a number of member companies in a
                         given country responsible for the local promotion of the KNX system
                        scientific partnership : scheme allowing technical institutes easy access to the
                         KNX specifications and tools for use e.g. in students’ projects – annual
                         organisation of the KNX Scientific Conference

                      partnership for trained and certified contractors and planners
                      certification of training centres
                      any remaining promotion of the legacy systems and needed clarifications of the frozen
                      legacy specifications and respective technical support
                      Certification of EIB products, as an optional trademark on KNX certified products


                  Any further work in expert and working groups of the former legacy associations has been
                  suspended.
