The KNX Specifications describe the following system model:
a common kernel upwardly compatible with the EIB system
two commissioning types
System Mode (using a PC tool i.e. ETS)
Easy Mode (using code wheels, push-button or a central controller)
It is foreseen that the ETS will be extended in future to allow the integration of products
into projects, which cannot be programmed via S-mode
The following defined transmission media:
TP1 and PL110 according to the previous EIB Twisted Pair respectively Powerline
media;
A newly defined transmission medium Radio Frequency
The use of IP to route and tunnel KNX telegrams or the use of IP as a fully fledged
KNX medium
a set of standardised data point types, functional blocks and application models
an extended set of system mechanisms for HVAC applications (called LTE mode)
