safe environs of the school campus. It is important
to stress upon the young ones that nature is
everywhere and not just in resorts, parks, forests
and mountains. The walk introduced them to the
five senses, seeing the green grass, smelling the
blossoming flowers, hearing the chirping of birds,
feeling the fresh air and the warmth of rising
sun – things that fill our heart with happiness.
Thee children observed the various shades of blue
in the sky, patterns of clouds, flocks of birds, the
tall buildings and the colours around them. The
tiny tots were encouraged to touch, feel, smell and
admire the flowers, grass and leaves on our walk
together. Later, the children expressed the joy of
being with nature and appreciated the beauty all
around. The kindergarteners drew what they saw
during the nature walk.
In an extension of the above activity, the KG
children were soon taken for a walk around the
school, giving them an opportunity to explore
and enjoy their surroundings. This proved to be
an exciting way to move learning beyond the
classroom. Children learnt about the things around
their homes like the fire station, banks, police
station, restaurants, school, playground, hospital etc. From school, the
group went for a walk through playground to the clinic and then to the
