What to do:
                                            1.  Secure the pet
                                            2.  Clean the wound thoroughly and apply a bandage if needed
                                            3.  Notify supervisor or Director of Administration
                                            4.  If the bite has broken the skin, the bite must be reported to Frisco
                                                Animal Control
                                            5.  Contact Animal Control – 972-292-5303
                                                   a.  Leave message notifying that we are reporting a bite
                                                   b.  Have all pertinent information ready for the return call from
                                            6.  Notify the owner (see below)
                                            7.  Have injured person fill out the “Report of Illness or Injury” Form in
                                                the procedures manual under “Forms – Misc”.
                                            8.  If the bite induced bleeding, then the employee may see a doctor
                                                   a.  The employee may go immediately to the doctor or may
                                                       wait until the end of their shift
                                            9.  Once at the physicians’ office the employee need only to notify the
                                                staff that we (Legacy Veterinary Hospital) will pay for the charges
                                                and refer all questions to the Director of Administration.
                                            10. We use currently use the CareNow facility at 5644 Preston Road
                                                972-529-4545

               Notifying the owner:
                                            1.  Once the victim has been stabilized and we have made initial
                                                contact with Animal Control, we must contact the owner
                                            2.  When contacting the owner, use good judgment and let them know
                                                that their pet has bitten someone at the hospital
                                            3.  Notify them of their pet’s condition
                                            4.  Address that in these situations, we have contacted Frisco Animal
                                                Control as we are bound by law.
                                            5.  Let the owner know that a quarantine will be mandatory. We will
                                                abide with the orders of Animal Control.
                                            6.  If Animal Control doesn’t recommend home quarantine, we will
                                                quarantine the pet at no charge to the client (because the pet bit
                                                while in our care it is our responsibility).
                                            7.  The client is responsible for an any tests or vaccines required to be
                                                in our hospital (fecal, DA2LPPV, BV, etc.).

                       NOTE:  If the owner claims that they would like to put the patient down immediately, notify
                       them that we will be at the mercy of Animal Control and there will likely be some testing that
                       will need to be done if we proceed with Euthanasia.  We MUST get permission from Frisco
                       Animal Control before euthanizing. THERE IS NO NEED TO DISCUSS THE TYPE OF TESTING, NOR
                       THE METHOD OF SAMPLE COLLECTION
