e. Next week’s GOALS for VSD, ACT, and # of Trans: This is where you show the team
what the goals are for the next week in order to get another cash bonus for next week.
This is where you get agreement that it CAN be done and WE WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES
TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. Next we will be to go to this upcoming week’s action plan. This is
action plan is HOW make it happen.
f. THIS WEEK’S ACTION PLAN: Read out each line item verbatim to the team with the
person(s) names for that item. Look up at the individuals assigned an item. Make sure
they seem to understand and agree to it. If not, ask them to meet with you immediately
after the meeting at 1 PM. This is NOT the time to sit and discuss details or
disagreements. It takes too long and can go in a negative way. If there are valid reasons
why it cannot be done adjustments to the AP can be done at 1…..but BEFORE the week
is started.
HOUSEKEEPING: This is the section of various things you have been needing to address with the entire
team during the week. Each item to be discussed here should have a headline so the staff can follow
along and know the structure.
1. New Hires: The director of admin will discuss recruiting/hiring and our new hires. This is also
the section where introduce new hires by discussing their position and giving them a chance to
introduce themselves to the team. They need to tell everyone:
a. What their experience has been
b. Where they are from
c. Something they want to share about their personal life
d. Why they chose to work with us
2. Training Plans and Certificates: We also discuss training plans for various staff and present
certificates of training completions to the team (see procedure on training in the management
manual).
3. Miscellaneous: The headline for each of these topics should be on the agenda for the meeting
so everyone can see what things we will discuss here. Examples of this may be how we will be
handling a holiday, overall recruiting/hiring needed, a doctor’s upcoming vacation/CE and
associated relief vets.
TRAINING: This is the section for policies or procedures that apply to everyone or at least the majority
of the attendees at the staff meeting.
1. This is where LVH is different. We use this section in POSITIVE way. Most businesses will move
this part to the housekeeping section and simply tell everyone what things they are doing
wrong. In these businesses it is the bulk of staff meeting. It is typically a laundry list of problems
and how the staff needs to do better…or, even worse, how much they have failed.
2. Refer to any policies or procedures IN WRITING. You may need to have complete reprinted
procedures or sections of procedures. You will need to get signatures on any updated or new
procedures, but ONLY if both you and each employee are confident they can and will do this
change.
