8000.1 – Action Plans for Weekly Stats

Result Statement: To create a weekly action plan for the entire hospital that accurately and objectively
addresses current stats. All weekly action plans or steps are completed as assigned without fail and
improve overall stats week-to-week and year to year.

Position with overall accountability: Executive Director

               Resources Needed:
                   1. Current LVH Stat Log for the week
                   2. Organizational Informational Chart (OIC): Graphs of primary stats that can be seen at a glance
                   3. Formulas for Business Success from Veterinary Practice Solutions: Series of steps to take or
questions to answer based on current condition of stats.
                   4. Weekly Action Plan Template – found under “Forms” in the hospital manual.

Steps to take to analyze stats and OIC board:
                   1. See next page. Fill out the questions/steps.
                   2. Spend just enough time answering these questions to a level that helps generate the most
effective action plan. Do NOT spend time doing this as an academic exercise or simply to prove
your knowledge. Your title itself proves your knowledge. The analysis is intended to get a good
grasp on of what is going on in all areas of the hospital without missing or misjudging
                       something.
                   3. Fill out your action plan. See the second page following. The items listed here are just words
with more details of what action plans should accomplish. The words are for training purposes.
The page is a template of what you would want you want the action plan to look like.
                   4. We should almost NEVER have overdue action plans. If we did it would have been for a valid
reason…AND the supervisor would have been informed WELL IN ADVANCE of why it could not
be completed….AND there was a valid reason why no else was able to do it by the due date. We
have hard due dates and there is NO EXCUSE not to tell a supervisor if a deadline cannot be met
IN ADVANCE and why. This is part of our standards. This notification takes less than a minute

               Drill/Demonstration:
                   1. Why do we formulate a weekly action plan for the team?
                   2. What would we happen if we didn’t?
                   3. Why do we include people in all positions in various weeks?
                   4. Show your trainer where you find the formulas?
                   5. Practice formulating action plans with your supervisor for at least six weeks before doing this on
your own. Discuss each formula and how it might work.
