A quinquennial ago, back in Boston, I was doing my degree in policing and investigation. It
was when I came across the most beautiful woman that I had ever seen in my life. The
woman who gave me the true meaning of my living. Being an orphan, deprived of love and
care, I had the hots the minute I saw her. She was 2 years my junior and we shared the same
course. Without realizing, I fell head over heels in her. Two months later, I plucked up
courage and proposed her. Thanks to my lucky stars, she, somehow accepted my proposal.
Our lives went coherently from then on. My once agonizing life as an orphan, littered by
many unknown faces was adorn and garnished by her cheerful presence. Our bond was
meant to be beautiful. Everything went really smooth until one day...
In all of a sudden, I heard a loud cacophony, reverberating from the garnered crowd. My
thoughts of the past came to present. I saw an anonymous man, running around the
mansion and screaming his lungs out.
“THERE WILL BE ANOTHER DEATH! THERE WILL DEFINITELY BE ANOTHER DEATH!”
With my mind, battling in turmoil, I approached James.
“James, who’s that guy? He seems peculiar. Why is he shouting?”
“Sir, he’s not to be worried of. He’s quite mentally unsound. He lives with his grandfather
just down the street, sir. He’s always like this. Shouting and sometimes, behaving
aggressive”.
“Something’s fishy about him”.
Soon, I arrived at the police station and settled down on my chair in the office. Sighed and
engulfed in confusion, I desperately placed my arms on the table. Suddenly, James barged
into my office.
“Sir, I believe you asked me to collect details about Sophie and the mansion. As far as I
collected, the mansion was believed to be a palace owned by Emperor Norton in mid-
1800’s. It was an inheritance from Norton’s great grandfather and was lived on generations
by generations. However, some people say the palace was confiscated from Norton’s
descendants after World War II. But the thrilling part is, the moment the palace switched
hands, mortals who lived in it died. A total of 12 deaths overnight. People assumed that it is
Norton’s ghost that slaughtered each and every one of them. And so, the mansion was left
unoccupied. Till now, people believe Norton’s ghost roams in it and none dares to stay
there. Well, on the other hand, Sophie worked as an air stewardess in AirAsia airlines, sir.
She was an adopted child like Maria. Sophie lived with her family just three blocks away the
mansion, sir and didn’t have many friends either. Her relatives are all overseas”.
