“So kind of you, sir. But, why the forms?”
“Don’t worry. It’s just a formality”.
Handing me over her trust account number, she strode off. I fished into my pocket and
gripped on my handphone. I transferred money worth 25,000 USD to St. Mary Jane home.
Moments later, James approached me.
“Sir, your trust she said? Do you have one, sir?”
“Yes, I do, James. A trust of my own. You know I too, am an orphan. I know how much pain
and suffer orphans go through since their childhood. Chaffed by thousands, bullied by
hundreds and abused by dozens are the life we, orphans endeavour. So, not wanting the
pain that I went through to be suffered by any, I started a trust a year ago. I use the money I
saved in the trust to help as many orphans as I can”.
“I’m sorry to hear that. It’s indeed a great work you’re doing here, sir. You surely do
enlighten many innocent souls’ lives”.
“Thanks, James. You know being an orphan is a curse. A curse that sticks with you for the
rest of your life. Can’t get rid of it. No matter how much you try”.
A minute of pin-drop silence reigned. The once tensed atmosphere now filled in with
tangible confusion and palpable solemnity.
“Sorry. I better get back to work”, I told and marched to my chair.
“What’s next, sir?”
“Looking at your collected information, there are 3 more adopted female teenagers with
Cancer in 19th Avenue Street. We can’t move forward in this case without their help.
James, go there and explain them our situation. Tell them not to get panicked or frightened
at any cost. One more thing, fix CCTV cameras in all 3 houses and in that god damn
mansion, too. If my calculation is correct, that psycho will hunt down any of these 3 females
this coming Tuesday”.
“How do you know that, sir?”
“Maria was killed on 13th August and Sophie on the 18th. So, I guess his next target will be
on the 23th, this coming Tuesday”.
“Right, sir. I’ll take care. Worry not”.
