GRAMMAR NOTE X deshō to Indicate Probablity
Deshō is a tentative form of desu and indicates probability or the likelihood of
something happening. It replaces desu and can occur after an adjective or a
noun.
Oishi’i deshō. It’s probably tasty.
Nihon-jin deshō. She’s probably a Japanese.
When the particle ka is added to deshō, it becomes even less sure. For this
reason, deshō ka sounds more polite than desu ka in asking questions. Note the
