48 ATLAS OF THE WORLD’S STRANGEST ANIMALS
Proboscis Monkey
It’s hard to ignore such a sizeable snout! A male proboscis
monkey’s nose can be up to 18cm (7in) long, although such
prodigious protuberances are nothing compared to their
stomachs! Yet, it’s what’s going on inside these big bellies
that’s really strange.
Juveniles
Young proboscis monkeys look
little like their parents,with
brilliantly blue faces, blackish
fur and a relatively normal-
sized nose.
