             HOW THE LANGUAGE WORKS
                 Past Imperfect

                 The past imperfect tense, which denotes the sense of ‘used to’,
                 is formed in the same way as the present simple except for the
                 third part, where the past tense of hōnā is used:
             Verbs
                   verb stem +  imperfect suffix +  tense marker
                   uTh       -tā, -tī, -te  thā, thī, the, thī
                 The third part is inflected for gender and number:
                   vō sāt baje uThtā thā
                   he used to get up at 7 o’clock
                   vō sāt baje uThtī thī
                   she used to get up at 7 o’clock
                   ve sāt baje uThte the
                   they used to get up at 7 o’clock (masc)
                   ve sāt baje uThtī thtt  ī
