1 Bolzano (Bozen)
Alto Adige; 39100
In a valley at the junction of the Talvera and Isarco rivers, Alto Adige’s
main town has changed hands several times over the centuries. In
the Middle Ages it was controlled by the Counts of Tirol, then by the
Bishops of Trento; next it passed to the Habsburgs, then to Bavaria
and Austria. Although it was given to Italy at the end of World War I,
there’s still a real Germanic feel to the town centre.
