NEW GUINEA MANGROVES
This young saltwater crocodile is feeding among mangrove roots.
Fully grown, this species is the largest of all crocodiles, growing up
to 23 ft (7 m) long. Despite its name, it prefers fresh water, and
adults compete fiercely for control of prime channels in swamps,
often forcing juveniles into marginal rivers or out to the open sea.
