r Charles Bridge (Little Quarter Side)
Karlův Most
Prague’s most familiar monument, Charles Bridge, was
founded by Charles IV in 1357, and connects the Old Town
with the Little Quarter. It is now pedestrianized but at one
time could take four carriages abreast. Many of the statues
on the bridge are copies; the originals are kept in the
Lapidarium of the National Museum (see p162) and at
Vyšehrad (see p181). The Gothic Old Town Bridge Tower
(see p139) is one of the finest buildings of its kind.
