the results back to the Incident Room.” Dreck said as left with the Doc’s report. The Chief’s
Nephew had come up trumps with a load of records from the Clinic. The team were going
through them as Dreck arrived and handed Lomax the Doc’s report. Jenna spoke up
“This may be what we’ve been looking for. A male child underwent Gene Surgery at about
the right time. They had to keep identities hidden back then; it was the Law to do so, to
protect the child. He was fostered to a couple on Terra prime, rich landowners and pillars of
the community. Records are sparse, but it would seem he was legally adopted by the couple
and inherited a vast fortune, a number of properties and land. Most of which he liquidated
before vanishing from the records when he reached the age of twenty-one” she said.
“Do we have a name?” Krank asked
“His adopting parents were called Myra and Clark Westerton. They gave him the name of
Stephen, that’s all that’s here.” she added
“Hmm; I’ll look into this Stephen Westerton. I think I know who might have some info. In the
meantime, you continue to investigate Marco’s last movements Dreck, take Hurden with
you; that should give the “Boys Cartel” a distraction. They might know how he ended up in
Hedebar. Jenna could you help Doc with further analysis of the weapon used to kill him.
Jason you come with me, we are going to see an old flame of yours” Lomax said and Jason
looked puzzled.
Josiah had planned his death a long time ago, when he’d become aware of his real
heritage. He sent the signal via the Dark-Net to the device implanted in his proxy. The man
never knew what hit him, and there would be no trace of the device soon after. He then had
his messages leaked to the “Grape Vine” and prepared to evacuate with his new family. His
revenge on the world that had abandoned him and on his biological mother was almost
complete. He could arrange the final details from their new place of residence. The accounts
he’d set up were untraceable, the new Identities were inscrutable, and the histories. He,
Marco and Morgana were in the clear. Marco had even found a new friend to come along
with him, Darius he’d named his pet, a Sand Devil from Asgard, one of the few creatures
there that could tolerate living on the surface for brief periods. It was an intelligent thing;
and had learned a number of tricks. It followed him around constantly. It could also be
vicious and protective of its master. Every boy must have his dog. Morgana had finalised the
deal with the Monastery over payment of royalties etc. for the Brew, and other financial
considerations. She really had a head for figures. Marco, it turned out was an excellent
negotiator and had managed to broker a reduction on the property finance for their new
home. He felt he finally had the life he wanted. They eventually said their goodbyes and
boarded the Freighter that was taking them to the border of Rim space. The Unity and the
Trust had no jurisdiction where they were going.
Lomax and Jason were at The Blue Scarab. Jason took a moment or two to recognise
his “old flame” as Lomax had put it. Dorrie Henks. She was looking after the girls at the
place, seeing to their health etc.
“Jason; Steve what brings you to this part of town? You after some action Jason?” she
grabbed Jason and almost hugged the life out of him.
