hat in order to accomodate their busy schedules
and the production.
After the auditions are over, the work really
begins. Students spend hours memorizing their
lines, learning how their characters think, walk,
and talk. They rehearse over and over and over
again, sometimes until 2:00 in the morning. The
sheer amount of time spent in preparing for one’s
part is enormous, especially when one considers
that the actual performance only last a couple of
hours.
Then there is the set to build. The drama club
memebers spend several weeks planning,
purchasing materials, and building it. Mrs. Linda
Overstreet assists in acquiring props and costumes.
The maintence department helps the students set
up the stage lights and the sound system.
It is all worth the time and effort. Miguel
Rodriguez says, “The feeling you get when you
say a line, that you’ve said at least 50 times
already, but this time there is an audience that
laughs and applauds — there’s nothing like it. I
wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.”
