_/hursday meant Friday was
just around the corner. With the turn of
the clock and the blink of an eye Friday
would be upon us. Thursday was named
Dies Jovis (“day of Jupiter or Jove”) by
the Romans. This was translated by the
Teutons into Thorsdag for their god
Thor. Both Thor and Jupiter were gods
of strength and thunderbolts. Thursday
meant girls basketball games, swim
meets and opening night for various
plays. Sometimes Thursday meant late
night studying for those Friday final
exams. Just like everyday, Thursdy
meant a school day, and for some a work
day.
Concluded Junior Craig Mertins, “I
like Thursday because it is payday at
HyVee.”
Thursday meant girls basketball
ames. Many times small crowds
lagued these games because they
rere held during the regular
chool week.
