The loss of a key player in mid-season
proved to be an advantage for the
Cougars. It forced them to work
harder and emphasized the definite
need for team unity as well as co
operation. Coach Wubbena adds,
“Every player had to put forth 100%
and concentrate all the time to win.
That was good for them — made
them better players.” Through per-
severence, the Cougars overcame the
gap in their offence.
Pensacola Christian College put the
team to the test. At the final buzzer of
the first game against the Eagles, the
score was tied 76-76. Five minutes of
intense overtime resulted in a loss for
the Cougars. A second outing was
even more disappointing. The Orange
Belt Conference Tournament was an
other story: after winning a tough
game against Trinity Baptist, the men
were determined to capture the tour
nament trophy. The Cougars came
from behind to beat the Eagles and
won the championship.

The score see-sawed
back and forth in each
team’s favor. Although
the Cougars lost in
overtim e, the final
score didn’t reflect the
battle fought by both
teams.
