The young and inexperienced Lady Cougars gained wisdom
during their challenging season filled with ups and downs. The
competition was exciting and brought the team to a higher f
playing level as they challenged many larger scholarship schools

in a very tough schedule. Although they completed the season
with a winning record of nineteen wins and twelve losses, the
women lost the final match to Southeastern at districts. Seniors
Kelly Cassell, Yvette Neuman, Talma Heard, and Molly Naragon m ArnBi •S<‘ *
did exceptionally well at the district tournament. I
Many of the girls sacrificed two weeks of their summer %
vacation because they assisted Coach Vickie Grooms during
*
volleyball camp and began a week of pre-season training. It was
good preparation for the arduous season. Though the ladies
struggled in some of their games, they gained lasting spiritual
victories in their lives.
Ephesians 5:16, “ Redeeming the time because the days are ■ •
evil,” was the team verse. Under Coach Grooms' leadership, the
ladies constantly turned their eyes toward Christ for their ?
strength and guidance. God showed His omniscient love for the
girls by teaching each one an important lesson — FAITH.
This year’s Lady Cougars lived up to the standard of ex
cellence that Coach Grooms demands of them. Each team
member would agree that there were as many victories off the
V rl
court as there were on the court. -Ida Malone and Nicki Lamb

During every match, Coach Grooms (ires
up the team between games. The girls
use this time to refocus their efforts and
to catch their breath. Coach’s leadership
inspires them to go into each game with a
winning attitude. They are reminded that
each game is different requiring new
strategies.
Whether on the court or on the sideline,
the Lady Cougars volleyball team works
as a unit. While some play, the others
shout words of encouragement. The Wkwk i
women realize that winning takes a team I f 11 1

effort, not just one individual's ability.
Even though not all of the ladies can
participate in the game at the same time,
they work together.
