More Than Just A Game
Although the team works hard during daily practices and
makes every effort to win — it does not always happen.
However, the men realize that there is much more to life
than playing sports.
Once again the highlight of the season was the trip to
Hendry Correctional Institute in Immokalee, Florida, where
the opposing team was a talented group of inmates. It was
a hard fought match, but the highlight came afterwards
when the team held a chapel service where they sang songs
and delivered the gospel to the prisoners. During the sports
award chapel, senior Jason Wrachford testified how the
Lord showed him the importance of presenting the gospel
to those men in prison. “ I will never regret going to the
prison and sharing the love of God with those men.”
The team made ‘‘Up Against The Odds” their theme for
the year. From the season’s beginning, the players knew it
would be difficult to repeat last year’s district-winning
performance. Because of the few returning players and
many young members, it was a rebuilding year. However
despite many injuries, the team pulled through. They im
proved, played tough, and ended the season well. The
team’s good playing on the field was encouraging, but the
most satisfying aspect of the season was using their ath
letic ability and soccer to share Christ with others.

Matt, one of the top scorers on the team,
transfered to this college and was re
united with high school teammate Jon
Spires. The two played together on the
front line and combined on several scor
ing plays. Their aggressiveness paid off in
this game, a 6-0 win over Webber, the
best game of the season.
Matt List falls to the ground with a look
of excruciating pain as he tangles with
his Webber opponent. Matt’s versatility
and leadership unified the team and won
him a spot on the all-district team.
Chanch Edwards, Matt Caldwell, and
Casey Southerland were voted honorable
mention to the all-district team.
