ighting back was the softball team’s motivation this year, after starting off the
season 0-12. The team and new coaching staff faced some adversity during those first
twelve games. A quarter of the way into the season the Rams starting pitcher tore her
quad. The team had to regroup and make some changes on the field. Those changes
would include putting girls in spots they had never played before and giving younger
girls opportunities to show what they could do at a varsity level. The team had to work
together and grind their way out from that rough start. The Rams finally broke out as
they beat Ashland-Greenwood in their own tournament for the first win of the season.
Senior Josie Chronic commented, “My favorite part of the season was getting our first
DUB!”
The girls were excited for their first win but were not satisfied. The girls then took
their annual trip to the North Platte tournament winning two of three games for a third
place finish. Junior, Kennedy Walls stated, “North Platte is always a fun trip, because
you get to bond with your teammates while playing a sport you love.”
The team’s 9-21 record does not represent the leadership on this year’s team. Having
six seniors and five juniors, there was a lot of competitiveness. That competitiveness
would drive the Rams into districts. The girls fought hard enough to finish the district in
fourth place and this included a win over rated DC West.
First game of the season, junior Morgan
Letak pitches the ball for a strike. Letak emphasized, "My
favorite pitch to throw is a change up, because I like to
watch people swing and miss." Letak totaled thirty-seven
strikeouts this season and had ERA of 4.CI8.

states, "In a huddle,
I would always talk

KAD."
