he girls’ golf team enjoyed a very
T successful season, winning seven
out of nine duals. The team competed
well in all six tournaments, finishing
seventh in the Lincoln South East and
Duchesne Invitational, and fifth in both
the Ralston/Westside and Metro
tournaments. The team finished third in
the district tournament, upsetting Burke
and Fremont to earn a spot in the
state playoffs, where they finished
seventh.
Letter winners were seniors Lanora
Offerdahl and Vicki Ruhga, juniors Kim
Joens and Shelby Mertins, and
sophomores Robin Grutel and Danica
Sorenson.
“We had a lot of fun,” said junior
Kim Joens. “Even though we had a
small team, I felt it was a plus for us.
It gave us more time for individual
instruction.”
The boys’ team had one qualifier for
state, sophomore Kirby Smith. Senior
Greg Anderson fell one stroke short of
qualifying for state in the district
tournament.
“We played about as well as we
could. We just needed to have more
players,” said coach Monty Smith.
“The team was great to work with and
I felt they tried their best.”
The boys’ outstanding golfer was
senior Greg Anderson. Greg finished
first in the Fremont Invitational and
eighth in district competition.
