                     The  word  nara  sometimes  appears  after  other  inflected

                forms:  suru  nara  (=  suru  no  nara)  ‘if  it  is  a  matter  of  doing,’
                shita nara (=shita no nara) ‘if it is a case of having done.’ The

                provisional of negative adjectives, shinakereba ‘if I don’t do,’

                is usually equivalent to English ‘unless’ + the affirmative:
